Description

Oven baked Filipino BBQ chicken breasts made juicy and caramelized with a balanced sweet savory marinade. This recipe delivers bold flavor using a simple oven method that keeps the chicken tender and coated in a rich glossy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

1/3 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup banana ketchup (or regular ketchup + 1 tbsp sugar)

5 cloves garlic minced

2 tablespoons lemon juice or calamansi juice

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon neutral oil

2 tablespoons water (adjust for consistency)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a baking dish.

2. Pat the chicken breasts dry and arrange them in a single layer.

3. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, garlic, citrus juice, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, oil, and water until smooth.

4. Coat the chicken thoroughly with the marinade and let it rest for at least 30 minutes or longer for deeper flavor.

5. Place the chicken in the oven uncovered and bake for 20 minutes.

6. Remove the dish, spoon some marinade over the chicken, and return it to the oven.

7. Bake for another 10 to 15 minutes until fully cooked.

8. Finish with a short broil for 2 to 3 minutes to caramelize the surface.

9. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Flatten thicker parts of the chicken slightly for even cooking.

Do not overcrowd the pan to allow proper caramelization.

Adjust marinade with small amounts of water if it becomes too thick.

Use low heat when reheating to keep the sauce smooth.

Store leftovers with sauce to maintain moisture.
